When I peek into my childhood I recollect memories like connecting the dots to make shapes, drawing perfect mountains with a ruler, exploring handwriting & lettering and more. As a child I had always been interested in reaching to the non-existent or rare things by drawing them. Rewards & recognitions during my school days gave me encouragement to do more.
When I joined NIFT-Delhi for Bachelors in Design, I realised my journey from being an artist to a designer. Understanding design & the unlimited depths of it. During these four years I got the knowledge of basic principles of design and visual communication, branding, UX-UI, graphics, content, fashion styling, advertising, space design, visual merchandising, fashion journalism and every possible tool that would help me connect or communicate a product from the producer to the end user.
After graduating, I worked for sometime in the industry with brands like ITC Ltd., Lifestyle International & Blackberrys. Working in the retail industry gave me an insight into the deeper nuances & the way in which I would like to contribute to it. This urge to add something new to the existing pool of retail industry inspired me to learn more about retail.
I joined NID to pursue my masters in Design, specialising in Design for Retail Experience. During my 2 years at NID, I realised retail is not just about decorating showrooms for selling goods, it is much beyond. It is conceptualising and designing an experience, an experience which will connect a producer to the end consumer. Store design, interaction design, UI-UX, Screens, Apps, branding, new media like virtual reality etc are tools to fabricate the entire experience. Things like consumer/user psychology, colour science, sociology, demographics and psychographics and many more play an important role in this bigger picture which is more holistic and end to end in terms of experience design. Today, I see myself somewhere in this bigger picture, creating end to end seamless experiences in a more comprehensive manner.
